October 4, 2017    Call for 2018-2019 Directors

Front Row Centre Players invites directors to submit for our 2018-2019 season.

We encourage directors experienced in musical theatre to submit proposals (following the guidelines below) to Jeffrey Diodati & Lindsay Kurtze, Artistic Directors, Front Row Centre Players.

FRC produces several musicals each year (The Pajama Game, City of Angels, Dogfight, and Priscilla: Queen of the Desert in our current season; and Jekyll & Hyde, Reefer Madness, How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying, and Little Shop of Horrors in our previous season) and has been producing musicals since 1987. A full list of shows produced by FRC can be found at our website at

If accepted, we cannot guarantee the production slot Directors will be assigned. The shows may be produced any time between September, 2018 and June, 2019. Please provide any details that may affect availability during this timeline in your submission.

We are looking to produce four shows during the 2018-2019 season. For this season, we are programming with FRC’s 30th Anniversary in mind.

For submissions this year, we are primarily interested in details related to the interested Director candidates as per the guidelines below. If candidates have desired productions in mind, these submissions are optional and can be submitted in list or proposal format.

  1. A history of your experience as a director;

  2. An outline of why you want to direct for FRC specifically;

  3. A brief description of your directing philosophy and/or style;

  4. What specific qualities/attributes do you possess that you believe are most valuable to offer FRC as a company and community at large. (personal, creative, technical, or otherwise);

  5. Indicate your strengths or specific interest in any particular genre/style of show to direct? (Example: Strengths in large production/high choreography musicals, or keen interest in works by Rodgers & Hammerstein. Optional show-specific submission/proposals can be included here);

  6. Please note the purpose this proposal process is to “sell” your candidacy as a director for FRC’s consideration. A proposal with thought put into it will be more likely to make an impact than a two-sentence “I’d like to direct for FRC” statement.

PROPOSALS MUST BE EMAILED BY 11:59pm, Friday, OCTOBER 27th, 2017 to [email protected]

Proposals can be sent as an attachment or put into the body of the email.

The Artistic Director team will contact Directors of interest for an interview.

In our considerations, we will strive to look for a balance of male and female directors, as well as new directors who have not directed for Front Row Centre Players before.

Please note: while we are looking for directors who have either previously directed for Front Row Centre Players or who have an established history of having directed musical theatre, new directors to FRC may be teamed with an experienced FRC director to gain FRC-specific experience.

If you are interested in directing for us but are limited in previous experience, FRC is committed to including and introducing new people into the theatre community. Individuals with little or no experience in directing are encouraged to express their interest in our mentorship program wherein we will connect you with a primary director to establish an assistant director/mentorship relationship.

Any questions can also be addressed to the Artistic Director team at [email protected] All submissions will be considered by the Artistic Director team. Recommendations will be put forth to the FRC Board to be made official. FRC will work to secure rights and negotiate royalties. When all rights are secured, all submitters will be contacted to inform them that a decision as to the new season has been made, and that a season announcement will be forthcoming. This process may take until the end of January.

Thank you for your interest in Front Row Centre Players!
